If ADHD is left untreated, it can negatively impact your daily functioning in the following areas of your life.

ADHD symptoms can have a negative impact on one’s relationships, work, and/or school performance. Consequently, this may lead to persistent feelings of low self-esteem and shame.

Individuals who do not receive ADHD therapy and counseling often have difficulty maintaining focus during conversations and may exhibit impatience as a result, which can have a negative impact on their interpersonal relationships.

If ADHD is left untreated for children or teens it can lead to difficulty retaining information, completing homework, and maintaining focus in class. If ADHD is left untreated for adults it can impact their ability to complete necessary tasks and lead to difficulty sustaining employment.

Why Choose Us for ADHD Therapy in Ottawa

A neuropsychological assessment takes place over several days and includes the following: an initial interview to understand the reasons for the consultation, testing and scoring interpretation, and writing of an evaluation report. The content of the report is then submitted and explained to the client during a final meeting.

Professional Guidance that Gets You Results

The neuropsychological assessment does not require any preparation. The neuropsychologist may ask you to bring certain documents such as school report cards or previous evaluation reports with you to the appointment.

Comprehensive Care

Our specialists offer comprehensive treatment plans for ADHD. As such, we take the time to determine whether complementary resources or approaches to therapy may be beneficial in addressing your symptoms.

Advice and Strategies from our Ottawa ADHD Psychologists

Focus on the basics. In addition to ADHD therapy and counseling, getting regular exercise, enough sleep, and eating a balanced diet can help improve your focus since any deficits in these areas can exacerbate ADHD symptoms.

Give Yourself Rewards. Getting started on a task that you want to avoid is half the battle, the next step is maintaining your momentum by increasing your incentive to follow through. Write down a list of realistic and accessible rewards such as: grabbing your favorite snack or calling a friend. Once you have completed a task, you can access one of the rewards.

Break down tasks. ADHD symptoms can feel overwhelming, particularly when you have a lot on your plate and don’t know where to start. Breaking down your tasks into manageable and realistic steps with your ADHD therapist can reduce feelings of overwhelm and help build confidence as you complete each step.

Minimize distractions. Keeping the area where you complete your work or school tasks free of clutter and minimal noise will set you up for success. Additionally, if you have a tendency to scroll social media or particular websites on your phone or computer, there are apps and websites that can limit your ability to access certain websites or social media platforms for a certain period of time while you complete your tasks.
