About
Aya is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She holds a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
Aya works with adolescents, young adults, and adults presenting with anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, identity development, and life transitions. She has experience providing crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment through her work as a crisis line responder, supporting individuals experiencing acute distress, including suicidal ideation, trauma, and other mental health concerns. She has also contributed to clinical research at The Royal Hospital, where she was involved in data collection, treatment planning, and patient interaction. In community settings, Aya has supported individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges, including harm reduction and resource navigation.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational frameworks, with a focus on understanding how past experiences and attachment patterns influence current emotions, behaviours, and relationships. She integrates person-centred principles to foster a collaborative and empathetic therapeutic environment, and incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and somatic approaches to address both the emotional and physiological aspects of distress.
Aya works from a strengths-based and multicultural perspective. Having moved to Canada from Lebanon, she brings cultural sensitivity and an understanding of identity, belonging, and adjustment. She is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and collaborative space where clients feel heard and supported, and where they can develop greater self-understanding and practical tools to navigate life’s challenges.
Aya is fluent in Arabic, French, and English and is able to communicate with clients in all three languages. Psychotherapy sessions are primarily conducted in English.
